Sewing 101 – Fabric Prep

It is a hassle, yes, but doing this right after you bring it home will help you when you go to sew, and you won’t have to wash it and then wait to get working on your project!

A quick tip on fabrics you’re afraid will bleed color, add some vinegar to your wash, and it will set your colors and works as a natural softener.  When you transfer your fabrics to the dryer, make sure NOT to use a dryer sheet. I know it will feel a little strange. But it will help you in the long run.

Once you have your fabrics washed and dried, time to iron! If your materials fray and get stringy at the end, go ahead and clip them off, don’t rip them or pull them off, it will mess up your fabric.

Now that you have everything washed, dried, and ironed~ You are good to go!

Tip

A helpful trick is to use comic board backing to wrap your fabrics into storing them. They run about $7 for 100 of them. And this will help you keep track of your pretty materials, and it can be a nice bit of inspiration when you’re sewing!
