Renfrew Top by Sewaholic

This top is super fun and easy to sew!

There are three different variations of the pattern, which I love;  3 necklines and three sleeve lengths, giving you six entirely different looks with one design.

I chose to use the neckline from view C and the sleeves from view B.   I used Art Gallery Fabric stretch knit, which has 95% cotton and 5% Spandex.  Designed by Bonnie Christine, her fabric line is called “Hello Bear,” these prints are utterly adorable! I couldn’t resist.

• 2 Yards of Fabric – Art Gallery Stretch knit from Sew Dayton (pre-washed & dried)

1 yard – Buck Forest Mist
1 yard – Adventure Springs

• Sewing Machine & Serger
• Size 11 Stretch Needle
• Clear Elastic 3/8″ – for shoulder seams (pattern calls for Twill Tape)
• Guterman White Poly Thread
• Sewing Pins
• Scissors (sewing and craft)
• Clear Tape (taping pattern together)
• Measuring Tape (for sizing)

Sewing It Together

The first thing I always do is prewash my fabrics.  A 95% cotton 5% spandex will be shrinking quite a bit. Next, I figure out the design for my project, main and accent fabric.  For this one, I wanted the Buck Forest Mist for the primary material on the shirt’s body and the sleeves.  The Buck print is pretty lovely, and  Adventure Springs (the arrows)  are pretty small, so of course, a significant pattern is the main sections of this top. Then to accent with the more subtle design.

Sewing together was fast and easy; the seam allowance is 5/8. However, if you want to do the entire shirt on the serger, you can quickly remove the extra seam allowance while cutting out the pieces. Or,  if you are familiar with your sergers seam allowance guide, you can trim off the excess while sewing it together.

This pattern was fun and fast sew, especially when sewing together the cowl neckline.

Thoughts

When it comes to any hiccups or complex parts on this pattern, well, there just isn’t any. It is a great beginner pattern and a perfect go-to pattern for your tee shirts.  I would HIGHLY recommend this pattern to anyone just getting into sewing knits, also as a staple pattern to have.
