Kids Learn to Sew
In this 4-week workshop – Learn the basic techniques that will help inspire kids’ creative side! Each week we will learn a new style or skill to help build confidence. Projects will be straight stitch to help master the basics of keeping a straight line, seam allowance, and clean stitching.
What will they make?!
- – Pillows Applique Felt Pillows 10×10 –
First, each student creates a pillow with their first initial. Next, we will use high-quality felt and they will choose pieces to construct their design on the pillow front, then learning about applique, they will sew on their design. Students will learn the proper order to build a decorative pillow, and they will learn about design, applique, and basic pillow construction. - – French Seam Pillowcases!
Then we will tackle French seams! A fantastic finishing that makes a project go from homemade to handmade! Students will learn about pivoting and turning, french seams, and the burrito roll. - – Tote bag –
In this workshop, students will learn how to construct a lined library tote bag! Using half-inch seam allowances and sewing inside out! Flipping and turning as well as topstitching. - – Hand Embroidery Basics with Sampler –
Finally, in the last class of the workshop, students will learn how to hand embroidery with fun and decorative stitches that they can add to their sewing projects this final week, and we will have Donuts for the last class from Stan the Donut Man. (We will be sitting at our stations while eating so they can eat without masks, once we are done with donuts we will start stitching and masks will need to return for the remainder of the class (unless taking a drink).
