Kids Learn to Sew

4-week workshop – Learn the basic techniques that will help inspire creations to come! Each week we will learn a new technique or skill to help build confidence. Projects will be straight stitch projects to help master the basics of keeping a straight line, seam allowance and clean stitching.

What will we make?!

March 7th 5:30-7: 30 PM
Drawstring bag
Picking up from the 101 series we will start to make more advanced projects! Beginning with a drawstring bag, big enough to fit a pair of shoes for travel!
Materials needed: 2x

March 14  5:30-7: 30 PM
Embroidery 101 – Basic Stitches – homework will be a simple design that we will make into a zipper pouch the following week!
Learning the basic embroidery stitches like the backstitch, split stitch, french knot or satin stitch. Then you will choose an embroidery design 3 colors and start stitching. Homework will be finishing your stitches so we can use in the next week’s project!

March 21 5:30-7: 30 PM
Embroidered zipper pouch 
We will use the previous week’s project lesson to create a lined boxed bottom zipper pouch. Learning how to insert a basic zipper!

March 28th  5:30-7: 30 PM
Reverse Appliqued Envelope Pillow 
The final class of the workshop, students will learn how to construct a reversed applique envelope pillowcase. Using wool felt and fabric to construct this fun last project of the series!

Prerequisites: Basic sewing skills, filling a bobbin, threading machine, seam allowance, cutting fabric.

What you will learn:
Hand embroidery stitches such as back-stitch, french knot, split stitch, satin stitch.
Transferring embroidery design to fabric and color choice.
Sewing using the zipper foot
Using fusible interfacing
Cutting out a pattern
Measuring
Marking projects
Reverse Applique
Casing
Threading casing

4x Thread (small spool for each project – I sell thread for 2.00 at the studio)
1 Pack of Microtex Needles
Sewing Scissors
2 fat quarters (different patterns/prints) (zipper pouch)
One 9″ YKK zipper  (zipper pouch)
1/2 Yard of Fusible Interfacing (zipper pouch)
3/4 Yard Cotton Print (multi-directional prints work best – envelope pillow)
12×12 Pillow Form
1/2 Yard Cotton (drawstring bag)
2 yards of 1inch grosgrain ribbon

Supplies provided by the instructor:
Sewing machine for those that need to borrow one
Felt for Reverse Applique Pillow
Embroidery floss, hoop and needles to use for class or you can buy a kit
Embroidery Transfers
Fabric for embroidery sampler to practice stitches

No Refunds or Returns.If there is damage during shipping, I will do my best to replace the item quickly.  Contact me within the first two days of receiving the product and email me with a picture of the damaged product (after opening the container), along with a photo of the shipping container before the product was opened.** I want you to enjoy what I make, but it is the BUYERS responsibility to notify me of any issues promptly. **

Class Policies

Full payment is due upon signing up.  (In shop, on the phone or through the website)

  • If you prefer to pay by cash, please come to the studio any TUESDAY 11 am – 6 pm to prepay before the class or credit card. Registrations are not complete until payment is received.

• 100% of fees credited to another course if the student cancels 72 hours (3 days) before the scheduled date.

  • However, you will need to reschedule within 15 days and scheduled for no more than 30 days from the original class.
  • Class fee is forfeit if not rescheduled within this timeframe.

IF CANCELLATION LESS THAN 72 HOURS, there will be no credit.

  • No exceptions, this ensures that other students waiting for a seat are not missing learning opportunities due to late cancellations.

No-shows give up any refund or exchange.

Times:

All classes start and end on time. Please be prompt, if you can come up with 5 minutes early for set up.

Please do not come more than 5 minutes early to the studio; I will be getting there 15 min before to set up for the class.

If you use freeways to get to us, be aware of the rush-hour traffic, please plan accordingly.

If you are over ½ an hour late, you will need to schedule a private lesson at your cost. You might miss out on precious information.  I might not be able to catch you up if it’s a full class, please make sure you give yourself time for traffic and travel.

Returns/Refunds:

No Refund or Transfer of funds, if upon cancellation is 72 hours (3 days) or less before the start of the class.

If you are canceling before the 72 hours cut off will result in a CLASS Credit only.
