Sewing Superstar Highlight!
I have wanted to share my students’ successes and stories for a while, and I am excited that 2025 is that year! I will start with my student, Bonnie. She has been with me since early 2017, and I love that we have become more than students and teachers—we have become best friends.

Bonnie has worked hard to learn to do all things creative and can’t wait for you to read her story. I hope it encourages you to try something new!
Little about yourself
I am 56 years old and reside in Beavercreek, Ohio. I have been happily married to Hugh for 24 years. We have two adorable King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, Wagsy and Chloe. We enjoy camping, watching TV, and spending time with our church family and friends.

What made you interested in sewing?
My husband bought me a sewing machine and a Cricut for Christmas in 2017. I did not know anything about sewing. I could barely sew a button on! My husband could sew better than me. I had always said I wanted to learn but never had the time.

I had been pretty sick for a number of years, and he thought it might give me something fun to do between the Cricut and the sewing machine. I learned how to use the Cricut pretty fast by watching YouTube videos. But the sewing was more challenging. So I searched around to find a teacher. That is how I met Jesy!
What is your favorite sewing style? Quilting, Clothing, Accessories, etc?
My first project was a cover for my stand mixer. Then, I made a bag and a zipper pouch. Then, I made my first shirt!! Then, I just started making clothes. I loved making clothes, especially dresses and skirts, because they are easier than most clothes.

But then Jesy had a block-of-the-month class for quilting, and I got hooked! I also started making bench pillows that combined embroidery with quilting. So now, I rotate between quilting and clothing projects.
My favorite project was probably the most challenging: making a pair of jeans. I did not think I would ever finish them, but it was well worth it.

Seam ripper. Unfortunately, I have to use it a lot!
What machines do you have?
Babylock Unity. Brother PQ1600S. Brother Innovation. Babylock Serger.
Do you have anything else to share?
Sewing has given me the confidence I did not know I needed. Jesy is a phenomenal teacher. I have helped her out with camps, and I see how she works with children and how excited they are when they can see their projects finished.
I know that excitement! She has brought so much joy to my life, not only as a teacher but also as a dear friend. She has the patience and wisdom to bring out the creativity in all her students, young and old.
Jesy is an excellent teacher! I spend my days now happily sewing thanks to her teaching.
Love the confidence shining in these photos! I’d love to learn how to make clothes. The jeans are impressive!
Thank you Bonnie and Jesy! Your story has personal meaning for me, as I am desperately trying to be well enough to get sewing! I have always loved to sew! Your story has given me a huge smile today! I’m so proud of you and empathize with your challenges and successes. And I’m proud of Jesy for being an energetic, inspiring woman, such a needed commodity and role model! Blessings for ALL!
